The fast bowler was acquired by SRH for a staggering ₹20.50 crore at the December 2023 IPL auctions, making him the second-most expensive player in IPL history at the time (only to be surpassed shortly after by teammate Mitchell Starc). Cummins takes over the captaincy from South African batter Aiden Markram, who led the Hyderabad franchise in the 2023 season.

This is a significant development for Sunrisers Hyderabad as they look to bounce back after a lackluster performance in the previous season. Cummins’ leadership qualities and international experience are sure to be a valuable asset for the team. It will be interesting to see how he fares in his new role, especially considering this is his debut as captain in the high-pressure environment of the IPL.
